I INJURED MYSELF, SO I MADE CLOTHES.
In 2016, I sustained a knee injury that kept me off dance for a year.

As I sat in the studio watching my classmates progress, I began to wonder: what are my other passions? Although I didn’t have the answer at the time, it planted a seed for my love for art and design, which built my skill sets as a creative.

Years later, I revisited this rather dark time in my dance journey. Instead of feeling frustrated, I felt inspired. I wanted to create something from my MRI scans.

Below is a grossly simplified walkthrough of this project, named INTROSPECTION.

STEP 1: FRICTION
The injury was caused by overuse of my knees (i.e. friction).
I taped sandpaper to pointe shoes and danced on different surfaces to create scratch marks.

STEP 2: ADDING MY MRI SCANS
I combined MRI scans with the scratch marks and distorted them so it’s not so literal.

STEP 3: PRINT DESIGNI experimented with different materials and ways of layering prints.

STEP 4: PRODUCTIONDesigns sent into production + photographed.
